Administrator Notes

Objectives

0 / 3 objectives achieved — check them off as you go through the lesson.

Why It's Useful

“Why does this shared account have two passwords?”, “What did we decide about Julie's access during her leave?”: these answers often reside in the mind of a single administrator. Notes are an internal comment thread attached to the relevant entity, which your fellow administrators can find in the right place.

Your Turn

  1. Open the application configured in the first lesson, then the Notes tab. → Notes
  2. Click on Add a note, explain why this password is common to the folder, then save (button Add a note, or ⌘/Ctrl + Enter).
  3. Click on the pencil icon of your note, complete it, and click on Save: the mention modified appears.
  4. Do the same on a user's profile, then on a folder's page.
  5. Delete one of your notes with the trash can icon.
caution

Notes are never visible to end users, but they remain readable by all administrators within their scope. Do not write a password in them.

Check Your Knowledge

1Who can read a note attached to an application?
2Who can modify a note?
3What happens when a note is added?

Key Takeaways

  • A Notes tab exists on every application, user, and folder.
  • Notes are reserved for administrators, each within their scope.
  • Only the author can rewrite their note, and any action is notified and logged.
