Share a common password for a folder
Objectives
0 / 3 objectives achieved — check them off as you go through the lesson.
Why it's useful
Some accounts are inherently shared: the carrier's account, access to a supplier's portal, the generic support mailbox. Instead of passing the password to each new arrival, you set it once, for the folder: all users of the folder use it to log in, and when it changes, you modify it in one place.
Your turn
In your test organization, choose an application that does not use SSO (any website will do) and a folder that contains at least one user.
- In Applications, use the Type filter to display Password Manager applications. → Manage applications
- Open the action menu of the application and click on Share.
- Click on Add and select the folder.
- With the selected folder, enter the username and the common password in the right panel. → Common application password
- Log in with a user from the folder: in their password manager, the application appears in the Vault tab with the shared password at the folder level. → Password manager
tip
The same account can be shared with multiple folders: each folder has its own username and password. This is useful when two teams each have their account on the same service.
Check your knowledge
1On what type of application can a common password be defined?
2At what level is the common password defined?
3Where does the user find this shared password?
Key takeaways
- The common password concerns Password Manager type applications.
- It is configured from the Share tab, folder by folder.
- Users find it in the Vault tab of the password manager.
